Scandinavian design originated in Northern Europe. While in the West

different art movements from Europe emerged, Scandinavia has remained true to itself and has not changed its style. Designing with a balance between modernity and tradition is what vintage design is now known for, perfect for a touch of vintage in your interior!

Rise of Danish Design

In 1930, there was a performance in Stockholm that made the breakthrough. After that, almost all furniture pieces that came from Scandinavia were given the stamp “Scandinavian design”, “Danish design” or “Swedish design”. Whether it was a mid-century cabinet from Sweden or a vintage chair from Denmark.

The craft of Scandinavian design

What makes Scandinavian design so special is its simplicity and emphasis on functionality. It was about “enhancing the beautiful things in your life”. Furniture had to be functional, sturdy and affordable. Decoration was eliminated and only the vintage cabinet itself remained. This made designers pay extra attention to their designs so that the cabinets and other furniture remained unique and beautiful to the eye.

Currents

Within Scandinavian design, there are several movements. Danish design is the most popular. In Denmark, they mainly use dark wood types, such as teak. Furniture made from this type of wood are also often found in our store. In Sweden they mainly use the lighter types of wood and in Finland they were specialists in bent plywood. So the same products are available in different variants.
