The Mission
Seens Vintage is not about buying and selling beautiful items. We stand for much more than that: the mission is much grander. Seens wants this generation, and the generations to come, to once again recognize what is quality and what is junk. We have become accustomed to fast furniture: low-quality furniture made from cheap materials that are difficult or impossible to recycle, and often produced under appalling conditions. These goods are flown in from the other side of the world and are made to last only a few years. This needs to change:
Our generation must once again value quality and craftsmanship – and then treat it properly. The Netherlands – and the rest of the world – must realize that it is a better choice to buy something good once than five times trend-sensitive junk.
That sounds like a big mission, but with every product sold that meets The Old Standard, we contribute to it.
The Old Standard
That is Seens' motto. Not everything was better in the past. But some things were. The Old Standard means:
Quality & craftsmanship: furniture used to be of higher quality. The fact that we sell furniture that is at least 50 years old proves its quality. On average, a piece of fast furniture only lasts 7 years.
Repair: broken or damaged? Then you have it fixed, because that's possible with quality furniture. The furniture and home accessories that Seens sells have been lovingly refurbished.
Locally made: where modern furniture is generally made in Asia, the products we sell are made in Western Europe. The furniture mainly comes from the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
Maintenance: if you treat your furniture with love, it will last longer. We are happy to give you tips, also via our Instagram.
It's time to pick up that standard again. It's time for The Old Standard.
The Origin of Seens
Seens Vintage was born from a love for beautiful, quality items. I, Sien Rouwhorst, was born and raised in the Achterhoek. After completing my education as a Food Marketer, I started working as a Brand Manager. In my free hours outside my office job, I did one thing more and more often: thrift shopping. This hobby grew into an Instagram shop, where I resold the treasures I found and refurbished for a small mark-up. Finding rough diamonds, cleaning them, refurbishing them, and taking a good photo of them: in short, upcycling.
Because this personal 'trade' gave me so much energy and my office job became increasingly dissatisfying, I radically changed course in 2021. I decided to turn my hobby into my work. Seens has since grown into a full-fledged company with a webshop and a physical home furnishings store. Every Thursday at 7:00 PM, Mid-Century furniture, lamps, and home accessories that meet the old standard are uploaded to the webshop. Every Saturday, our vintage home furnishings store is open.
