DORIA: the most beautiful vintage lamps

Lighting is an essential part of our daily lives, whether in our homes, offices or public spaces. However, behind the scenes of the lighting industry are stories of innovation, craftsmanship and design. One of the names that has always been prominent in the world of lighting is “DORIA.” Let’s dive into the history and heritage of this iconic lighting company!

The history of DORIA

The internationally renowned DORIA brand was founded in 1945 in Sonnfeld, Germany. In addition to glass production, they produced the most special, innovative lamps of the finest quality designed by important designers. In the aftermath of World War II, Germany found itself in a period of reconstruction and economic revival. This was also the time when the design competition "Die gute Industrieform" was introduced to promote quality and innovation in German industry. DORIA took advantage of these favorable circumstances and soon began producing glass lampshades. In the 1960s and 1970s, the company experienced its heyday.

Handmade Craftsmanship

What set DORIA apart from the start was the emphasis on handmade craftsmanship and attention to detail. DORIA lamps are characterized by their quality and aesthetics. In the early years, DORIA specialized mainly in glass lampshades. These were blown by hand, making each piece unique. The materials and techniques used in the production of DORIA lamps are of the highest quality, ensuring durability and reliability.

Iconic Collections

Over the years, DORIA has created numerous iconic collections that have stood the test of time. Some of their famous designs include pendant lights, wall lights, table lamps and floor lamps. The "Doria Leuchten" brand is a symbol of quality and elegance.

The "Ice Glass" Collection is one of the most recognized and appreciated series of DORIA. The lampshades in this series have a subtle pattern that reminds of ice crystals and provides a great light distribution.

The end of DORIA

DORIA had established themselves as one of the leading names in the world of lighting. Their dedication to craftsmanship and innovation, along with their timeless designs, have made them beloved by interior designers and lighting enthusiasts around the world.

When mass production of glass became more popular in the 80s, the company went bankrupt due to cheaper competition. What a shame! If only more of these hand-blown lamps had been made.
