Buying vintage furniture

Where do you get your vintage furniture? I get that question almost daily. And I can tell you: there is no general wholesaler where you can easily place a 'vintage' order. I will explain how buying for a vintage shop works in this blog!

Buying vintage furniture

In a vintage shop, not only is the sale of products uncertain, but also the purchase is a risk. There is no standard stock. The trick is to build a network of sellers, so that you can purchase somewhat stable. This means that each product takes much more time and effort than wholesale goods. I found this very exciting when I started this adventure.

But at the same time this risk is also the core of the matter. The big advantage is that every product is unique. At Seens you buy items that no one else has!

Buying vintage at the thrift store

When I started Seens, I bought things at the thrift store and sold them for a small premium. Just as a hobby next to my work. I really liked going to the thrift store, but I couldn't keep everything myself.

At the moment I don't go to the thrift store anymore. There are several reasons for this:

  • It's too time consuming. Going through a store until you find maybe one or two items is not profitable.
  • Furniture in particular often no longer meets my requirements: it is too damaged for further sale. Although I am less critical about this when I keep something for myself.
  • Thrift stores now know what the market prices are. So it is becoming increasingly difficult to find vintage interior items for a small price.
  • Finally, I would like as many people as possible to choose second-hand over new. If I were to steal all the gems in the thrift store for others, it would no longer be fun to go to the thrift store. While that is such a good trend.

So I'm very happy that I've managed to build a network. And unfortunately for you, I don't share my addresses. Otherwise I could close down the whole thing, while I've only just started! :)
