Condition: very good Dimensions: 250 x 160 cm What makes a hand-knotted carpet so unique? There are several characteristics that you can see whether a rug is hand-knotted or machine-knotted. Hand-knotted carpets usually come from Iran (Persian carpet) or surrounding countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan or India (Oriental carpets). They are made of natural materials such as wool and cotton. Machine-knotted carpets are often made of (partly) synthetic materials. In addition, a hand-knotted carpet takes much more time to make. Knotting is a time-consuming, intensive job that can take years for one large carpet to be finished. The thousands of knots are human work, which causes errors in the rug - another difference that you do not see with a machine-knotted rug. These can sometimes be spotted on the bottom of the rug, for example certain small elements that are not exactly symmetrical. This makes each rug unique and of high quality!
